Sunday and cover sketch

I will do some writing today, I've promised myself. In the meantime, here's the cover sketch which Robert Hale emailed over for Perfidy and Perfection. I love it. Possibly because Ben (the hero) looks so handsome.

    Hi Kate,
It looks like a Barbara Walton. Is it? Barbara's done all my covers, and I've been very pleased with them. I like the way the covers reflect either a scene from the book, or the feel of the book. Is this an actual scene on the cover?

Did you ask for a different cover artist for this book, or did Hale just give you one - maybe to make your Kate Allan books distinct from you Jennifer Lindsay books?

Yes, it's taken loosely from the opening scene which takes place in the street in the made-up town of Stickleton in Wiltshire. Ben (the hero) has been driving his curricle fast and showing off to his friend who, being that sort of man, leers after Sophy whom he sees in the street. This prompts a sudden feeling of jealousy and possessiveness in Ben (he knows her already) and therefore Ben steps in and manoevers the situation so that he can flirt with her himself.
    In short.

I think it really does reflect the feel of the book which is fun and light-hearted.

Did you have any say in the cover design?

Technically, according to my contract, no say in the cover design. However, how it works with Hale is that they send you the sketches, and I think if you have a problem you shout. I would have, but actually I saw this and simply thought 'wow, love it'. :)
